Music is Seasonal

Can we all agree that some songs are better heard in the summer or winter?  For me, most Beach Boys songs are best heard in the summer (duh)…EXCEPT for God Only Knows (which happens to be my all time favorite Beach Boys songs).  Your Love is My Drug reminds me of L.A. and sunshine/summer.  Songs like Crazy In Love and mostly all Kanye West songs (with the exception of all songs on the 808s and Heartbreak album) are best heard in the summer.  However, songs like Wish You Were Here (Incubus), Empire State of Mind, What Goes Around Comes Around (J.T.), and almost all songs by Coldplay are best heard in the winter season.  I’ve always thought this but decided to blog about it after I heard Rihanna and Drake’s new song (What’s My Name) that has a ton of “winter sounds” and made me wonder if music producers think the same way and release artists’ songs at certain times of the year because of their seasonal “sounds”.  Obviously, you don’t want to release a song like California Girls in mid-January or release most songs by One Republic in the summer…because to me, both belong in opposite seasons.  Does this make sense to anyone else?  Or am I on too many back-pain meds? :(

Alright back to my paper…
